About

The genesis of the event was the realization that the SADC region, despite its potential, had untapped opportunities and unresolved challenges in the realm of digital identity. To address this gap, we have day 1 did:conf as a structured platform to spotlight these issues. It serves as a beacon, drawing together thinkers, leaders, and innovators who are reshaping the digital identity landscape in Africa. Our inaugural conference places an emphasis on the vast disparities in the digital identity ecosystem and provided a stage for groundbreaking solutions tailored for the African context. Beyond mere dialogue, did:conf fosters actionable insights, encouraging stakeholders to drive real-world change.

Day 2 and 3 are inspired by the collaborative and dynamic format of the Internet Identity Workshop (IIW), did:unconf was birthed as a natural progression from the day 1 symposium. Which provides structured insights into the world of digital identity, did:unconf takes a more explorative approach, allowing participants to chart the course of discussions.

With esteemed facilitators like Kaliya Young and Heidi Nobantu Saul at the helm, and bolstered by the local expertise of DIDx, did:unconf has embraced the IIW's Open Space format, allowing participants to co-create agendas, ensuring the discourse remains current and relevant.

This unconference breaks the mold of traditional events, creating a space where every voice can be heard, from startups to industry giants. Set against the backdrop of Cape Town, did:unconf not only explores the intricacies of digital identity but also works toward weaving a cohesive network of innovators in the SADC region.

The legacy of the inaugural did:unconf in March 2023 has set a precedent, spotlighting the SADC region's potential and its role in the global digital identity dialogue. The commitment to furthering these discussions and fostering collaboration continues as we look ahead to future events.
